Our Purpose

Paving the Path towards a Compassionate Future for Dogs

At our organization, we believe that every dog deserves a life filled with love, care, and respect. We step in to make a difference in a world where countless dogs are subjected to harsh conditions, abandoned, or mistreated. We understand that the path to change involves rescue and rehabilitation and a concerted effort to foster a compassionate community through education, advocacy, and direct action. Our work is comprehensive and encompasses several critical areas:

  • Rescuing and Rehabilitating Dogs in Need: We specialize in the intake and compassionate rehabilitation of dogs who have been abandoned, neglected, or mistreated, providing them with the care and support they require to regain their health and well-being.

  • Fostering Loving Homes: Our primary purpose is to find these resilient dogs their forever homes, matching them with loving families who will provide the care, attention, and affection they deserve.

  • Community Education and Outreach: We are committed to educating the local community on responsible pet ownership, promoting compassion, and raising awareness about the importance of pet welfare.

  • Low-Cost Veterinary Services: We offer affordable veterinary services, including spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and health check-ups, to ensure the overall well-being of the dogs in our care.

  • Mobile Veterinary Clinics: Acknowledging the lack of veterinary services in many parts of Cusco, we operate mobile clinics that reach every corner of the region. These mobile units are fully equipped to provide essential medical care, vaccinations, and health consultations, ensuring that even the most remote communities can access necessary veterinary services for their pets.

  • Advocating for Change: We actively work to hold local government accountable for enforcing pet protection policies and strive to create a community where all animals are treated with kindness, respect, and dignity.

  • International Adoptions: Our international adoption program facilitates the adoption process and connects dogs with loving families worldwide, ensuring they find safe and caring homes regardless of geographical boundaries.

  • Creating a Better Future: Our ultimate goal is to create a more compassionate and humane world for dogs, where they are valued, protected, and cherished as integral members of our society.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

What is Humane Education and why is it important?2023-05-26T18:38:25+00:00

At Cusco Canine Rescue, we believe in the power of humane education to foster empathy and promote the vital understanding of compassion and respect for people, animals, and the environment, highlighting the interconnectedness among them all. Each of our programs aims to recognize the inherent worth of every animal, encouraging individuals to treat not only their pets but all animals they encounter with kindness and responsibility.

Numerous studies suggest that children who exhibit cruelty to animals or who grow up in households where animals are mistreated have a higher tendency to display abusive behavior towards animals and humans as they mature. Cusco Canine Rescue aspires to exemplify a healthy, respectful, and mutually beneficial bond between humans and animals by offering humane education programs.

What’s the process for arranging an educator’s visit to my classroom?2023-05-26T18:31:50+00:00

Cusco Canine Rescue is pleased to offer an enriching classroom visit from our humane educator, who can deliver a lesson tailored to your student’s grade level and preferred topic. Our primary aim is to deliver engaging content that raises awareness about pet responsibility and animal welfare. Although some programs may feature a companion animal, it’s important to note that extensive animal interaction is not a typical component of these presentations. Each session lasts between 60 to 90 minutes unless stated otherwise. Our programs can comfortably cater to up to 50 students. For larger groups, we can arrange consecutive sessions.

How long does Cusco Canine Rescue keep animals?2023-05-26T18:37:17+00:00

At Cusco Canine Rescue, we commit ourselves to providing ongoing care for our furry friends as long as they remain safe and free from distress. We prioritize finding a loving home for each animal, irrespective of how long it might take. If a pet shows signs of struggling to adapt to the shelter environment, we promptly arrange a suitable foster home. This temporary setup allows them some respite from the shelter, ensuring they are calm and relaxed when ready for adoption.

Why don’t some of your adoptable animals have photos or descriptions?2023-05-26T18:31:55+00:00

Once an animal is available for adoption, it is immediately placed on our website. Volunteers take photos and write descriptions of our adoptable animals and update the website once per week.

If you see an animal you would like more information on; please send us an inquiry. Adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, and many of our dogs are adopted before they ever have photos or bios online.

Unfortunately, we cannot usually answer phone calls about adoptable animals due to the large number of animals in adoption.

How old do you have to be to adopt a dog from Cusco Canine Rescue?2023-05-26T18:32:01+00:00

You must be at least 18 years old.

What should I do if I see someone neglecting or abusing an animal?2023-05-26T18:40:52+00:00

If you witness an act of animal cruelty, your immediate reaction might be to intervene directly. However, such confrontation might not effectively deter the abuser and could potentially escalate the situation, endangering both you and the animal. Instead, safely documenting the act through pictures or video footage is advisable, as this can provide crucial evidence for any subsequent investigation.

If the abuser is a child, it’s possible that the parents are unaware of their child’s actions. Animal cruelty often correlates with other forms of abuse within a household, such as child abuse or domestic violence, further underscoring the importance of professional intervention. Therefore, it’s best to entrust the situation to law enforcement.

If you encounter difficulties contacting local law enforcement by dialing 105, you can also contact Cusco Canine Rescue.

Always remember reporting animal abuse or neglect is crucial. If not you, then who? The welfare of these defenseless creatures relies on your vigilance and action.
